　　Of the three hundred or so dogs that we've had in our home as pets, I can give you an exact count of how many have preferred me to Debbie.

　　Three.

　　And Annie was one of them.

　　She was absolutely devoted to me; there was not a moment that I was home that she was not by my side. At the time, five dogs slept in bed with Debbie and me, and she was one of them, because she was one of the few young and athletic enough to jump onto the bed without assistance. But she wouldn't get on the bed until I did; and when she did we literally shared a pillow, weird as that sound.
