　　"What do you think it means, to be good?" she asked Marie.

　　"I don't know," Marie said. "It must mean more than just wearing dark clothes and being quiet and grave all the time. I think you can follow all those rules, and think about God all the time, and still be unkind to other people."

　　"I feel warm again," said Debbie.

　　The house wasn't a monster any more, it was just bricks and mortar. Dad opened the car door. He still looked confused. Just before she got in beside him, Debbie looked back at the house. There were no eyes staring down from the windows.
