There are many stories about why this dish is called 'shoemaker's box', but it is likely to be because the dish it is served in looks rather like a shoe box. The ingredients vary from recipe to recipe, but the basis of all version is meat, which represents the sole of a shoe (altough it should absolutely not be as tough!), and bacon, which is the nails or tacks used by shoemakers. This is a real Swedish classic that tastes delicious.
